Founded in 1903 in the South of Tarn and set in the beautiful surroundings of the Montagne Noire (the black mountains), the tannery Alran S.A.S. has developed a vast expertise in the tanning of goat skins. They are well renown in the community and have many articles used for handbags, small leather goods and watch straps
Chevre Sully is one of Alran s top articles and is produced in a special 23-step process which takes 4 weeks to produce. One of the most critical processes involves hand boarding each hide to increase the depth and structure of the grain, providing a unique and distinctive look. The neon colors bring a fun way to add a bold contrast to your products.
This goat leather is their top grade. The leather is tanned in a full veg-tanned crust and then retanned and dyed with some mineral tannage to add softness and strength at thinner thicknesses. This process is the key to achieving its distinct grain, soft yet structured feel and even consistent color.
When you combine the unique grain, great temper, durability and beautiful consistent colors across the entire hide, you will see why it is a staple amongst the top brands.

*Please note some hides have a more narrow clean center area than others. Please confirm with us before splitting if you have any size limitations and we can ensure you will receive the right hide. Also neon colors are designed more for indoor applications and products. Long exposure to UV can change the color to slightly fade overtime.

There is a tolerance to leather splitting. While we have invested a lot of time and training into hitting a tighter tolerance range than advertised, sometimes the leather articles and differing densities require the full tolerance range.

Leather tolerance is denoted by + – which means the leather can be both above and below that number by the denoted amount.

Example 1.2mm + – 0.1mm.

This means that the leather could come anywhere ranging from 1.1-1.3mm across the hide. Most the time this amount is indiscernible to the naked eye, but should be noted if measuring with precise equipment

How we gauge the leather is with a thickness gauge that can reach both the edges and middle of the hide. We apply a moderate amount of pressure (Not too hard and not too soft)

- Again our tolerances are tighter than the tanneries. We are usually well inside the range, especially on panels, but occasionally need the full range. Tolerance ranges are as follows:

- Splitting Panels: + – (0.1mm).

The width of our splitter is 30 inches. If you have a hide that is larger we will trim the hide to fit and return you both pieces. We cut off the belly section leaving you the nicest area of the hide in tact.
